Merry Christmas from DeWayne in San Diego
My third Christmas as a Blogger here at DiSD and in keeping with blog tradition, I have assembled a bit of Holiday Schmaltz,Video,Photo’s,Cartoons all with a X-mas theme! The format of this WordPress blog makes it a little difficult to change out the header graphics.
You might recognize the pic of the Hotel Del Coronado from 2 years ago on my DiSD Blogger Blog. I think it was 38* that night arround 11:30, I spent nearly 45 minutes freezing my ass off balancing a tripod in the sand. I was happy with the results, just not motivated to make a return winter trip to the Del for updated pix!
After all this part of the “Del” has looked this way since the 1890′s!

Judy Garland sings “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”
The title song of this post is according to ASCAP the third most performed Christmas song and yet it is not(in its original written form) a sappy,saccharine sweet Holiday song.
For me its bittersweet, a cheer me up moment when you know life is not perfect,when the economy is tanking or you may be moving or away from family during the Holiday.
Judy Garland made HYMLC famous and her own signature X-mas song and the song so perfectly captured the essence of Judy, and her eternal appeal with Gay men and their mothers! So much of Judy Garlands life was filled with personal tragedy,addiction and heartache and yet this incredible talent was forever optimistic and positive.
Judy age 41 on her failing (but in retrospect lauded) TV Variety show with her son and daughter. Liza Minnelli was away and here Judy sings the song with the updated sanitized lyrics but with an edgy more mature voice! As always with Judy so much is left to our interpretation.
What does this “little song” mean? What makes Christmas or any Holiday fulfilling and memorable is what you place below your tree. A little love with family or family of friends is what is truly lasting not a tree full of disposable bling!
